WHAT IS GS - GIANT SLALOM RACING?
Giant Slalom is two runs - races - over separate courses.
GS is designed to give the racer different types of long, medium and tight turns, which requires strength and rhythm.

Slalom races are two runs on separate courses.
Slalom is high speed and technically difficult, which requires the racer to be quick and agile

WHAT IS SUPER G?
Super G is a single run over a long course.
Super G blends downhill speed with the technical skills needed for GS.
The racer needs to be technically accurate at high speeds..

Race Preparation and course familiarization is timed as close as possible to each event that is structured into the program.
HOW DO WE KNOW WHO THE COACHES ARE?
As soon as the contracts are signed with the Coaches we update the website to advise of the new team.

WHAT IS A JUNIOR INTERFIELD RACE?
Junior Interfield races are held throughout New Zealand and are for Snow Sports New Zealand registered athletes U10 through to U16.
The interfields are designed as an introduction into alpine racing events. They are Giant Slalom or Giant Slalom/Slalom Kombi.
The interfields are organised by a Race Organising Committee (ROC). The ROC consists of the host Club, together with volunteers.
Racers who want to compete in any Junior Interfield event must be registered with SSNZ registered and have a SSNZ registration number.
The Junior Interfield Race Notices are published on the SSNZ website. They are also found on the Facebook Page North Island Ski Racing. You enter online prior to race day.

WHAT IS A NZ YOUTH SERIES RACE?

NZYS races are the next step from the Junior Interfields.
The NZYS events are Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super G.
All races count for NZYS and National Points.
All races need to be SSNZ registered.
All individual NZYS points gained are used to confirm the overall winners.
The NZYS is for U14 – U16 – U18 Athletes. U21 and Senior athletes may also enter any NZYS event.
The Children’s ICR (International Competition Rules) rules apply to the events. The races are managed under SSNZ rules.
The events are shown on the SSNZ race calendar.
SSNZ appoints the ROC and appoints a National TD (Technical Delegate) for each event.
Race Notices are published on SSNZ website, entry is online at the SSNZ website.
Results are published there also.

WHAT IS A NATIONAL POINTS RACE?
National Point events are for any U14 – Senior Snow Sports New Zealand registered athletes.
They include Slalom & Giant Slalom Racing.
The National Points Races also are part of the North and South Island championship races.
National points are allocated to each racer and are added to the national points list.
The national points list is produced at the start of every new season and can be seen on the SSNZ website.
Races are overseen by SSNZ and appear on the SSNZ race calendar. Results are published on their website.
SSNZ chooses the ROC for the event.

WHY DO I NEED TO JOIN RSS?
I just want to confirm that though RSS don't do the ski training now, we need to register with RAL who are now doing it. Correct?
YES
But my child needs to be a member of a club for ski racing. Correct?
YES
If the above 2 are correct, then being a member of a club like Ruapehu Ski Club (RSC) would be sufficient?
NO
RSS is an affiliated club of Snowsports NZ, clubs like RSC are not.
RSC is a club in that it provides accommodation, but there are only 3 North Island SSNZ affiliated club's for Ski Racing.
Mt Ruapehu (RAL) have endorsed RSS as the club to belong to if you wish to join one of their training programmes
RSS are the officially endorsed club of RAL for 2018
